CHÂTEAU PESSAN HAILS FROM GRAVES – WHICH IS OFTEN CONSIDERED TO BE THE BIRTHPLACE OF CLARET. THE HISTORY OF CHÂTEAU PESSAN IS DEEPLY LINKED WITH THE STORY OF THE VILLAGE OF PORTETS, ON THE LEFT BANK OF THE GARONNE RIVER. IN THE 17TH CENTURY, IT IS SAID THAT KING HENRY THE IV (4TH) ERECTED A TOWER - WHICH IS STILL IN THE PARK OF THE CHÂTEAU – TO KEEP UNDER SURVEILLANCE THE RIVER GARONNE AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE CITY OF BORDEAUX DUE TO ITS PROXIMITY TO HIS RIVAL’S PROPERTIES. TODAY THE WATCH TOWER STANDS GUARD OVER THE VINEYARDS.
