ARPEPE Grumello Buon Consiglio Riserva 2009
Valtellina Superiore Grumello DOCG. Buon Consiglio (Good Counsel). The Grumello cru has a little more topsoil than neighbouring vineyards in Sassella and Inferno and tends to produce wines which are a little fuller. Less angular that it’s counterparts, this is a fantastic expression of a great terroir. Only Nebbiolo from one of the five historical subtotals of Valtellina Superiore, that of Grumello, a large vineyard overlooking the town of Sondrio. Aged 5 years in oak and 3 years in the bottle before release. Ruby red tending to garnet, the nose expresses beautiful ethereal and floral notes that with the passing of the latter leave room for a delicate hint of Marasco cherries in spirit. Cherry sweetness melts into refreshing acidity, creating a stunning wine that is both powerful yet delicate and soft. This wine could be likened to an onion: it has layers of complexity that makes you want to cry.
