Born in 1860. Reborn in 1984. Brought up in 2004.These are the three great milestones in ArPePe’s history. A family tradition of winegrowers for over 150 years, in 1984, Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, decided to make a comeback, using his own acronym – Ar.Pe.Pe. – with his aim to bring out the full potential of Nebbiolo from the Alps in the unique terroir of the Valtellina. In the vineyards and the premises used for ageing at Buon Consiglio, Arturo began its renaissance, adopting the principle of "the right waiting time” and paving the way for the fifth generation.
Today, with the fifth generation managing the winery as winemakers and as growers, the quality of Ar.Pe.Pe. wines continue to be the exquisite outcome of years of slow evolution. Patiently waiting, and only when the right moment comes do they proceed with bottling the wine, always strictly respecting the phases of the moon. Unlike other wineries in the region that have abandoned chestnut for ageing of the Nebbiolo, winemaker Isabella feels the chestnut matches the structure and flavour profile of the Nebbiolo Delle Alpi, giving the wines, elegance, precision and jubilance.
Ar.Pe.Pe. owns 13 ha in the heart of the Valtellina Superiore DOCG area, dotted around Sassella, Grumello and Inferno. All vineyard practices are done by hand as the contour of the land does not allow for machinery. Locally the Nebbiolo grape is also known as Chiavennasca
